I'm looking to replace the coil in my 1938 Ford Tudor, I've never done this before. Is there any tips or suggestions you guys can give me? And can this be done with the distributor still in or not. Thanks gents

You need to have the distributor in the car, remove the upper passenger side bolt from the distributor, the 2 screws that hold the coil to the distributor and then remove the coil.

To install the coil, install the condenser on the coil, start the 2 screws, make sure that the coil will seat properly and slowly snug up the 2 screws while holding the coil seated on the distributor, then install the upper passenger side distributor mounting bolt to ground the condenser.

If the coil is not held seated, you could crack the coil case.

Keith, I am not sure if you have already purchased a new coil. I have a '38 Fordor Deluxe and had many issues with the coil and condensor. The previous owner had the issue for years. When I purchased the car 18 months ago the issue continued. Individuals on this forum recommended I purchase a coil from Skip Haney. Skip advertises in the Early V8 Times. My problems went away after I installed a coil from Skip. Skip's email address is skip@fordsrus.com.
