Topic: 1940 ford hood

mooseart    -- 11-01-2017 @ 2:19 PM
My project is a later model Continental, however I have a friend (not good with computers) completely restoring a 40 ford. Wanting to be as authentic as possible we are trying to find out about some information on the underside of the hood. On the under side of the hood there are 3 small marks that are symmetrical with the other side. 2 in the front and 1 in the rear. This is on the lowest part of the hood near the fender lip. It appears something was spot welded to the underside of the hood to form a bracket. It appears to be original ?? Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have looked at three other 40 hoods and none have these. They have either been removed or they are not part of the original hood

Cut pieces of blue tape to a point and place them alongside the holes. Repost the picture. I will then check my hood.

  Moonseart,
Those "marks" are not authentic. No how - no way.

I see from your profile that you are a new member (welcome!), so you may not know that Mike Kubarth is the Club's adviser on the 1940. He has vast experience. His word on all things related to the 1940 is taken without question.

Also, I just looked at my 1940 hood. Nothing visible there.

And you say there are symmetrical marks on the other side of the hood? I can't begin to guess at an explanation. This may remain mystery.

I really appreciate your help and will tell my friend. He is working on a military Limo and said the hood didn't appear to be from the same car, but couldn't tell what the marks were. Ill try to get a photo of the complete car. The body & frame are done and painted but all covered up.
Thanks again.

I have seen one of those whipple stagecoach limos back in 1992 in a guy's garage in Robinson Illinois. I could have swore I saw it for sale years ago in the exact same condition as when I saw it for $50K price tag. This may be the same one that is in Texas now.
