Having a problem when tightening the steering wheel on the shaft during wheel installation. With the nut tightened only within 1/4" of the correct position, can not budge the wrench. Any suggestions ?

How about a thread chaser for both the nut and the shaft?

Sure you have the right size woodruff key?

The fine threads are often damaged when the correct puller isn't used or someone has hammered on the shaft to get the wheel off. I agree with my friend Tom about the key. Forcing the nut can damage or destroy the threads, as can a common die instead of a thread chaser.

Also, if your car is pre-'40, make sure that the bottom of the woodruff key is flat otherwise it will bite into the light switch rod inside the steering shaft.
