What holds the back rest spring to the wood frame? I want to replace the seat upholstery and on mine the backrest cushion and springs are just hanging by the fabric that is tacked to the top of the wooden frame. I would think it needs a couple of hangers to hold it in place.

Ask LeBaron-Bonney 1/800-221-5408. They know everything about old car upholstery.

If the springs are original you will find thin metal tabs attached to the top and bottom of the horizontal back edges. Usually two on top and two on the bottom. The tabs have a small hole in them and usually there were tacks or small screws through the tabs to hold the spring to the frame. If you do not have the tabs you can use strips of vinyl wrapped around the horizontal edges and tack the strips to the wooden frame. Use the vinyl on both top and bottom. All you need to do is keep the spring from moving while you attach the upholstery. On occasion I have also used the small nylon wire clamps to accomplish the same result.
