Topic: 39 coupe passenger door striker plate

Does anyone have any experience replacing the passenger door striker plate on a 39 coupe. Mine is a zigzag steel piece over a similar shape rubber. The rubber has failed and is tearing away, so the steel is not able to hold the door latch to keep the door closed. (I don't have the car with me, so I can't send photos of the latch, but I do have photos of the striker plate.) My parts supplier has seen the photos and he says no one is making a reproduction of the striker plate. The one he sells is all steel, with no rubber.

Ford called it "plate door latch striker" the 39 body parts catalog list 78-702340 steel and the rubber 81A-702340 using screws 350292-S2. The two screws will come out but are usually very hard to remove. The screws have to come out and is best to remove one at a time, then repair the screw threads and run a tap into the hole to carefully repair the female threads so the screws will be able to tighten down firmly and hold all in place. Install the first screw and then repeat with the second screw with the plate rotated out of the way. Roy Nacewicz should have new screws if necessary. You may have to make the rubber base.
After viewing your photos on the other web site It is apparent the plate you have is nothing like the striker I mention above. As with the other web posting on the other web page I too would suggest you get the conventional striker parts.
