Topic: Another fuel pump question

flatheadfan    -- 09-18-2017 @ 11:06 PM
Are there any ethanol-proof pre-'49 fuel pumps currently on the market? Is an Airtex 571 one of them? I have had mixed results trying to find out.

Thanks

Tom

If you have an good "AC" core, Charlie Schwendler in NY can rebuild it with one of his alcohol proof diaphrams. Check the V8 Times for his contact info. He also test the pump after rebuild. Many of the other Mfg. pumps are not rebuildable due to the style of valves. He often has complete rebuilds on the shelf.

Perform a search for 'all' for Charlie Schwendler on this Forum - you'll find his contact info quickly.

The Airtex fuel pump has the ethanol resistant rubber parts. The Offenhauser pumps sold by Speedway are also alcohol resistant, The pumps sold by most of the suppliers of parts to the hobby are also alcohol resistant.

What kind of fuel pump problems are you having?

  Tom

I have an engine apart and now I am in the process of putting it back together. The pump has a history of leaking. I pulled off the top to see the insides and the diaphram does have some cracks. So, I am at the point of rebuilding or replacing it.

Tom, If you have the correct 1936-1940 fuel pump, have it rebuilt by Charlie. If it is the replacement type pump, just buy a new one, unless you are going to have the car judged, then I would look for a 1936-1940 fuel pump.

Yes Tom O , that is a correct late 36 pump ie: offset inlet an outlet and no 4 tab top cover. Completely correct for late 36 -40. Funny thing is he just ordered a 47-48 glass bowl pump from me. Wish I had his phone # to find out what he really wants. ???? ken ct. 1-203-260-9780
