Topic: Exterior door handle 48 Ford

Checked the search function and could not find the answer. My brother is trying to remove the exterior door handle on his 1948 Business Coupe and so far no luck. He has the screws remove and still cannot extract the handle. Any hints on getting the job done would be appreciated. Thanks: Arnie

Spray a lot of kroil or similar penetrating oil in the screw hole inside the door flange. Let it soak for a day or two and spray it again. The square shank is probably rusted and stuck in the lock. If it's the driver's door it should have some wear in it and loosen up.

Have you removed enough weather stripping at the edge of the door to find the set screw? It is usually stuck, so be careful as you try to remove it so you don't damage the head of he screw.

Make sure the set screw is removed. That screw is in the door jamb and usually hidden by the weather stripping. Once the set screw is out, tip the door handle down to the 4 o'clock position and pull outward. You may have to jiggle it a little to come loose.
