Hi....On my '51 Custom Club Coupe, there is a hole for the overdrive plate; a hole for the license plate light wire; a hole for the lock mechanism; four holes for the large handle; and there could also be a hole or two for a fordomatic plate if you have that option. All these are below the Ford emblem. Enjoy your '51.......BT

Hi....There are chrome bezels available that surround and "enhance" the emblems. I don't know the mounting style, but it's possible that your car had (has) these enhancement bezels. My car doesn't have these, so I'm not sure of the mounting. BT

Maybe this picture of my 50 will help, the trunk emblem has a chrome bezel that fits through the lid, from what I've found the emblems are the same from 50 to 56. The mounting may be different.

Here is a reproduction, I had to drill two holes to mount mine, so maybe yours has already been replaced. Early ford parts lists 50 and 51 using the same emblem. This is a screen shot from their site.
