I plan to install Diamond Back radial tubeless tires on my original 48 Mercury rims. These original rims are riveted to the center hub. Has anyone used tubeless tires on the original riveted rims and had any leaks through the rivets? Is it OK to use radial tubes in the tire if the rims leak? Bill Large

Bill, I would use tubes in the radial tires, because the original rims do not have the hump to keep the bead seated when the tire is under sideway stress or is under-inflated. Tom

Bill - have a read on this article that TomO posted previously and I recorded the link in my resource library. It's a good read, especially in advance of deciding to put radials on original '48 rims: https://www.sema.org/files/attachments/WTC-2011-05-Bias-vs-Radial-Tire-Wheel-Fitment.pdf To try to answer your question, while not running radials, I have been running Firestone bias plys 'tubelessly' on my '47's original rims having the same construction as you noted. After close to 10K miles and going on 4 years of use I have seen no perceptible loss of air, having only to very rarely let 1-2 lbs out in summer and/or airing back up 1-2 lbs in winter. Fwiw. Steve
