Topic: 50 ford parking brake

When I received my 50 Ford 2 door sedan the parking brake cable was missing. Since then I have purchased an original front cable but haven't a clue as to the routing from the firewall to the emergency brake mechanism under the center of the car. How does it snake to and are there any mounting brackets along the way on the firewall, frame etc. Thanks for help in advance. I'm stumped. Also cable seems really long but that could be my not understanding the routing.

According to the '49-'53 Chassis Parts Catalog, the parking brake conduit and cable assembly for the '49-'50 (#8A-2853-C) for all except the convertible should be 75" long. I don't have a '50 handy, but I believe my '51 is similar. From the handle, the cable goes straight through the firewall, emerging in the top, inboard corner of the wheel well. It curves downward through a bracket that is held by a bolt in a hole about 1" forward of the bottom-forward bolt on the regulator. From there it goes under a raised channel in the bolt-in panel at the rear of the wheel well. Emerging under the car, it goes over the brake pedal and over the "U" shaped piece that connects the clutch pedal ending at a bracket on the cross member. Here are some pictures (see next two replies):

Picture 2: The brake cable is the darker cable running between the grease nipple and the speedometer cable.

Thank you deluxe40 for your very detailed explanation and pictures. When I get my fenders on I should be able to follow your directions. Thanks again for your time. Your one of the good guys.
