I want to replace the fuel line from the fuel pump to the carb. The original line has a series of coils before the copper line reaches the carb. Can I eliminate these coils and go straight to the carb? The coils are 4-5 spiralling turns that the copper line makes before entering the carb! What do you think?

My guess is that someone was trying to eliminate a vapor lock problem. Definitely not original. If you want an original type line, most suppliers will have them.

Someone probably coiled the tubing to combat 'vapor lock'. Straight tubing with the necessary bends is the way it should be. The tubing should be copper plated steel tubing....

Could be someone was thinking deeper. Lots of pluses and minuses here. Coiling tubing relieves vibration and expansion and contraction stresses in the tubing, which can produce metal "fatigue" and result in failure and cracking in the tubing. Steel tubing is more rigid than copper tubing. Heating and cooling system mechanic's typically coil tubing when connecting to motors.

As I suggestedbefore YOU must determine what size are the inlet and outlet holes are before you buy a line. either 1/8" pipe thread or 1/2x20. I have a line that has the ends for 1/2x20 on both ends,why is that so hard to understand ???? ken ct.

You should not use a copper line for fuel. The correct steel line is copper plated to reduce the chance of corrosion and can be purchased from : http://www.fordscript.com/ Tom

Ron, that's bull-cr*p on the no no as far as using copper between pump & carb. The short flex line from pump to firewall takes care of any vibration. That's what its there for. Ive had copper line from pump to carb for over 20 yrs ,why hasent it work hardend yet and cracked. On my 36 coupe. Only my experience for the past 25 yrs of owner ship of this coupe.
