A trick the old "shade tree" mechanics used to shake a stubborn head loose is to thread a length of light rope into the cylinder thru the spark plug hole, then turn the crankshaft by hand. The idea is to get enough clearance between the head and the block to insert a pry tool. If you are trying to remove aluminum heads, you may have to resort to a holesaw placed over the studs.
