Recent purchase a 1952 Crestline. How can i tell if it has the original flathead engine? This car was last registered in 1993. I have it running, new carb going in soon. Really concerned about the originality of the engine. Thank you for your input, Ron

Hi Ron....I don't think that Ford put serial numbers on their flathead engines, only date codes. If that code closely matches the date of the car's manufacture, then it's probably original. Correct paint color and correct type air cleaner, oil filter, hoses, water pumps, etc are all good indicators too. Car manufacturing during the Korean War changed many things. My late '51 has a late '49 motor, but there is no indication that it was ever replaced. The paint and all attachments are correct for '51, and the motor has been in the car for many many years. Nothing under the hood is new except the spark plugs. BT
