Removed the original cowl vent gasket this morn and after a couple of hours with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, a plastic Eastwood scr*per and a dozen or so paper towels and have the seal well squeaky clean and ready for install of the new seal (when it arrives). Question - given the velocity of wind over the cowl vent gasket area coupled with no other feature holding the seal in place when the vent is open (like a window for example), will the same sealant used to seal the windshield and rear window (seals) in place be the best choice for installing the vent seal? There is a 3M product available called Black Super Weatherstrip And Gasket Adhesive. It is available from MAC'S under Part No. 64-52344. Other vendors may also offer it. It is highly toxic so take appropriate measures when applying it. This adhesive is used to secure the door seals.
