Topic: clutch and fly wheel

I'm planning on putting my stock 221 ci flathead back in my '40 ford coupe. The original flywheel is recessed and has a 9" pressure plate. Is this the proper setup for a "40 and will this clutch hold. The engine is going to be a stock 30 over flathead. I have an old book that says the '40 had a 10" clutch.

9 inch clutch is correct for original 1940. 10 inch was 41-48. 11 inch was trucks.

been using a 9" clutch in my heavy 1940 station wagon for over 18 years, 15,000 plus miles and no problems so far

One note of caution: If your flywheel has a "recessed" face, and the pressure plate attaches to the rim, be sure to have the rim reduced, too, if the face portion of the flywheel is resurfaced. Otherwise, the clutch action will be compromised by reduction in pressure.

I eliminate the 'bell' on the flywheel. No need for all that extra weight is the engine is built correctly.
