  Hi,
I had to drill out my 37 ignition lock to remove the cylinder, that was a year ago. Now that I am putting it back together I don't recall what all pieces go into it. I purchased a new cylinder. As shown in the picture, there is the main internal piece still in place. It easily slides horizontally back and forth. Should there be some sort of spring tension on it?
I have the end chrome piece (knob like). Is this pressed onto the splined shaft that is sticking out? I have not removed the electrical back plate or anything else.

  At the bottom of the lock cylinder you need a pin to hold the new cylinder in place. Looks like you removed the special chrome cap screw. It has a spring inside of it and a steel ball that act upon the switch lever and make it snap in the ON or OFF positions, it also puts some tension on the lock slide bolt. The cap screw also has a special lock washer. Roy Nacewicz has the cap screw spring ball and lock washer.

I will hit up Roy for those parts, also need some other black oxide screws/nuts anyway.

I am not 100% clear on how it all goes together. If someone has or knows where an exploded assembly view is available, that would really help.

Is the end chrome cap press fit? The attached pic shows a cap with what looks like a set screw in the side to hold the cap on???

  37sedandelivery, Here are 4 images of a 35/36 lock assembly that should help. The 37 is similar to the 35/36. The first image is an exploded view drawn by Gary Tosel and the last 3 images are a take apart discription I ,wrote up years ago. Hope it helps!!!

Again, thanks for the information and details. It allowed me to figure my lock assembly out. It is now all put back together and works! I tapped a 5/16-24 (NF) hole instead of course threads and bought a set screw at Ace Hardware. It really is slick.

And, I took the liberty to pull your documents together in a PPT doc and do a little swizzling, then published it as a PDF file, attached. Hope it works for you. What a great piece of info for an often little understood chunk of the 35/36 (37) Ford.

I can modify it for you any way you want.

  Gregg, You may want to mention that your photo is of a 37 steering column assembly and that it has been modified with a set screw in the chrome button. Here is an evolution publication that I did a while back showing 35 thru 37 assemblies.

Yes, the pic is for a 37, I made the updates and re-published, attached.
Your document is the bomb! Well done and invaluable to us Ford nuts.

BTW, I was missing the ball-bearing and found it listed in the Green Book, page 105.
P/N: 35 3080-S, 3/16". Ace Hardware had one.

  In addition the ON/Off switch plate is held to the drop with slotted screws and should be drive rivets. The clamping bolt appears to be allen head. Poor picture you may consider removing it.
