Has a fellow 1936 Ford owner out there anywhere in the USA recently purchased a new condenser that works well and seems to be reliable? Could you please advise the manufacturer's name and part number? From which retailer would these condensers be available? I'm thinking that it would probably be a good idea to be carrying at least one ....... maybe two or three ........ in the spare parts box while travelling.

We buy them from C&G (800/266-0470) The condenser for the '36 is 18-12300 if you have the three bolt coil. 1936 was a transitional year for Ford, so be prepared to describe the condenser on your car when you call. I do carry a spare condenser in my "road kit". It is in a prescription plastic vial with a pair of clip leads attached. I haven't needed it with my car, but it has helped others to get home. It is clipped between a good ground and the coil input when needed. There is an epidemic of poor foreign made condensers now. Many have a poorly connected terminal than breaks off easily. A good one will retail above $10.

Thanks, Supereal. Nice to hear from you. Our '36 has the early to mid-year style coil. I've dealt with C&G before. Topnotch outfit. Hadn't thought of asking them for a condenser. My guess would have been an outfit like NAPA or O'Reilly's, but maybe that's a a foolish thought because of lousy offshore parts??? I'll contact C&G tomorrow. Someone else sent a PM earlier today, but it arrived with a security warning ......... CONNECTION NOT SECURE and GO BACK. Our web administrator has been advised. The PM was deleted, unopened. Perhaps that person would like to try again? Or, use the telephone? The number here is 519-666-2891. Hope you're all having a great flathead summer.

Aha! Thanks, Tom. It had not occurred to me that I ought to check my inbox. Duh. Looks like my computer skills are still at the techno-peasant level. Ken's PM indicates that an IH-200 condenser, although not identical to the original type, works very well on his 1936 Ford. Ken ........... perhaps you could advise which retailer supplies you with that type of condenser, and who the manufacturer is?

I also have received a 78-12300 from C & G, but it arrived without a connecting pig tail...only a female threaded end in the cylinder. The old condenser is a conventional one being smaller than the replacement . Any suggestions as to how to proceed ?

Regarding Bubba's very knowledgeable advice, what he talks about on the Bubba's Ignition web site with respect to condensers for early V8s is interesting. Apparently there are a lot of garbage parts out there.

Autoluke, The 18-12300 is the correct style for either two screw or three screw coils for 1936. It fits both of them. Are you running a coil adaptor on a three screw distributor? Ken in Texas
