Topic: Dipstick tube flange to oil pan

On a 47 Flathead V-8, is the cast dipstick tube flange riveted to the oil pan or is it held on with pan head screws? Mine has pan head screws but photos I have seen appear to be rivets. There is a phot in the Early V-8 restoration guide but it is a little blurry and not clear enough to see. Thanks.

Originally they were riveted to the oil pan side wall. Over time the gasket between the flang and oil pan deteriorates and rivets become loose allowing an oil leak. To repair this, many folks make a new gasket and replace the rivets with screws and nuts. There are screws made with heads that look like rivets if you are concerned about looking original or being show correct.
