HI, I HAVE A 40 FORD AND THE HINGE USED WHEN YOU OPEN THE HOOD, NEAR THE DASH AREA, IS WARPED OR JUST CANNOT GET IT TO LINE UP CORRECTLY. PASSENGER SIDE, I DID REPLEACE THE PART. NO SUCCESS..
AT CAR SHOWS I HAVE SEEN THE SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER CARS.

ANY IDEAS.....I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CAR MECHANIC.

(I DID HAVE A STROKE AND MY WIFE IS HELPING ME KEYBOARD)

The '40 thru '48 hood can be tricky to get to sit right. If you can get you hands on a copy of the V-8 Times from May/June, 2009, it has an article on how to adjust the hood. You might need help with it.

I would suggest you start by removing the hood supports. Work with the hinges ONLY at first. The supports can and do on occasion cause a misalignment issue - especially the reproduction supports.
A good rule of thumb as you know, is to do one thing at a time. Hinges, then the supports...
You'd mentioned replacing just one hinge. Is the other one worn at the pivot points? If so, that isn't helping your dilemma.
The reproduction hinges are not quite bent correctly and on occasion that will cause an alignment issue as well.
You may also want to remove the entire hood momentarily and open up the holes in the cowl to allow for a bit more adjustment. This is often very helpful.
The hinge geometry is kind of tricky in that to lower the back of the hood, you must raise the hinge.
Of course be certain all of the attachment points are NOT worn. If they are, it is unlikely you will ever get the hood to fit properly.

One other point: With the fenders installed and secure, you are most certainly fighting an uphill battle. I ALWAYS fit the hood prior to installing the front fenders.
