I replaced the brake light switch on my '40 with the Harley switch that has been discussed here. It works as advertised; switch closes with less pressure. Much better! Only thing that bothers me is that it is "not correct". I had to cut the original wires and add crimp-on spade connectors. I don't have a Harley dealer nearby, so I went to the internet, to after-market Harley parts vendors. One vendor had an Accel brand switch cross-referenced to the Harley part number, at 2/3 the cost of the Harley part. Accel is a recognized brand, and Harley doesn't have a great reputation for reliability, so I bought the Accel. (although both probably come from the same source) You may be able to order Accel parts through your local auto parts dealer. It's Accel no. 181101.

Thanks for the update ---being that I just replaced my low pressure brake switch before returning from the annual Spring Fling in Lincoln NE. (that one lasted all of about 20 months) I stopped at Speedway in Lincoln (great museum by the way) and asked the parts counter guy if the switches they sold were silicone safe and he said no. (oh, the museum has several of the prototype V-8 flatheads that we have come to love) Wish someone would make an adapter connection --- Since I have not seen a Harley switch, and you said they were spade style, I guess I could make a short adapter to keep the original wiring connections.

Ok because my 40 is not stock and has disc brakes i bought a marine push button starter switch reversed the way it works inside and mounted it floor board. Works great for the past 15 years. Probably just jinxed myself.

I went to the Harley Davidson switch about 10 years ago and went through two as quick as the regular switch. Last about one season.I installed the Ron Francis silicone compatible low pressure switch and it has lasted year after year. search Ron Francis and click on his switches,I think it is SW-32 or something like that.It looks just like the original .
