Been plugging away at small things to get the 47 on the road. Just rebuilt the carb. It would drain the bowl in less than 12 hours. Yep, power valve or gasket bad. More of a story here but now to my question.
Took oil bath filter apart and cleaned it. Should there be a circular cork gasket (2.1"id x 2.5" od) at the mating surface of top filter can and the base. I kinda remember seeing a cork gasket there while working on similar oil bath filters years ago. Thanks

I am unaware of any gasket in the location you refer to. There is a gasket between the carburetor top cover and the bottom of the air filter housing. It was a fairly dense wool material.

Kubes, Thanks for confirming that no gasket is used between upper filter body and lower body. I did not realize that there was a gasket between bottom of filter and top of carb. Took a look at it sure enough there is a gasket there and mine was missing a piece. See pix. Mine is made of cork, not sure if original but I do have some cork here and will make a new gasket for it.
