Topic: Valve Stem Seals

Hi all, I am rebuilding a V8-60 engine that I purchased as an incomplete non-runner. The engine turned over when I purchased it. The intake valves and ports were extremely carboned up - much more so than the exhausts. I am wondering if I should install valve stem seals on the intake valves when I have the engine overhauled. If anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. Thanks for any help.

We machine an extra groove on the exterior of one piece guides for a second seal to assist oil control. Excess carbon deposits almost always are due to running too rich and/or not bringing the engine to correct operating temperature quickly.

Super, Can the extra groove be machined on the exterior surface of the two-piece guides? Or, are any straight-stemmed valves and one piece guides available for the V8-60?

We put them on the one piece guides only. I doubt that they are available for the 60, as the guides for that engine have a "52" prefix. The problem with machining two piece guides is holding them in alignment in the lathe chuck.
