Topic: 1949 Ford Interior Paint Codes

Slyle133    -- 03-22-2017 @ 6:40 AM
I am looking for the interior paint codes. Painting dash and trim on my 49 Ford two door custom sedan. I have a ditzler number I think is correct DL30554 which should be Gunmetal blue. I also have the code for Gray green. My car was Dark Blue on the outside, and interior was grey cloth. I am assuming it was the gunmetal blue, but I can't seem to find an example anywhere of it. The guy that was painting was asking for color codes so he could mix his own, or he would have to order the ditzier nuber without knowing what color it will be.

Did you check the inside of the glove box door or the inside of the ashtray for the original paint? if you have a sample the paint store can match it.

  Check paintref.com (thanks MG) and AutoColorLibrary.com .

I think, however, that finding a sample to have matched is the best bet. The materials called for in the original codes are no longer available and a match by eye with current materials is likely to be better than a translated code. Maybe you can find an ash tray or a glove box door with the original color at a swap meet or online.

Also, check with Chris at Shoebox-Central.com. He recently showed a high-point '49 and may have faced the same issue. He also has a yard full of parts cars.
