I want to replace the rubber seal on the upper radiator shroud of my 48 coupe, the original stapled with steel wire, I need some attaching ideas, I know glue is a option but I want to stay close to original as possible.

I made my own staples from stainless steel .035 welding wire and they worked well. Snip it to length, bend both ends to 90 degrees and fold them over once you attach the rubber.

Small paper clips worked for me. I had to rework them with pliers to make the right size , but they look great. Jim Farrell

did you predrill small holes in the rubber for the new staples?

You can use an awl to punch the holes in the rubber. Drilling rubber is much harder than punching a hole. Tom This message was edited by TomO on 3-21-17 @ 7:41 AM

I drilled mine, I thought it made a cleaner hole. I used an electricians pliers that has square jaws that was a perfect size to form the staple. I used the stainless steel because I had a roll handy and felt it looked nicer.
