What would be the consequences of switching my rims on my 48 ford 2dr sedan from 16" to 15" to fit a slightly wider tire. Just asking.Johna

Be sure the new rims take the hubcaps you want.

I did it on my '48, used pickup wheels, it worked out great.

My '47 Ford sedan coupe has 15" Merc rims with Coker Classic WW bias ply. When replacement time comes I'll change to radials.

just check, their was discussion about older rims accepting newer radial tires??/

Is a link to and article on the rim question.

You should also be aware that if you change the wheel, tire diameter, you will affect the speedometer accuracy.

Thanks for posting the article Tom - learned a lot from it. Very informative, and timely as well. Have a neighbor looking to replace the original (and still holding air/being driven) bias plys on his '54 Chrysler Windsor with radials. This article, along with another post of yours concerning Calli Tire and Wheel, have him rethinking the entire route he plans to take. Good stuff.

I used 55 imperial wheels to get to 14" wheels and 15" merc wheels in the rear and never had a problem,,

Fifteen inch wheels on a '48 Ford would not be a stock application, however, if you use '57 to '66 F100 wheels they will bolt right onto your '48. The stock '48 hubcaps will also snap right onto the wheels.
The pickup wheels will most likely be six inches wide which will not effect anything on your car.
The big thing about the '57-66 wheels is the internal hupcap knobs in lieu of the lager external knobs.
