Topic: 53 water pump heater hose pipe

tommyleea    -- 03-08-2017 @ 7:34 PM
I have installed new water pumps on my 53. So far I cannot get the heater hose pipe out of my old pump. Do I just get a threaded pipe and use it, or do they make replacement pipes for this application? Thanks.

I wouldn't bother just bring the old pump to Napa just for reference, these nipples
are kind of standard for most pumps. I'm guessing 1/2" National Pipe Thread..
Or use heat and lots of it........

Thanks, I will work at it a little longer with the heat.

Macs catalog shows this part # 8a-18599-R with a 20 degree bend for 12.95 on page 8 of their current one if you are looking for a newer piece.

Thanks big red, I am not having much luck with the original pipe, so I will probably get one from Mac's.

Well, it must have heard us talking, because it broke loose last night. I will keep mac's in mind though.

Acetone and ATF Heat will work, mixed 50/50; the best to free things. Way better than CRC, blaster, liquid Wrench and all of the others!!!Heat will work, but you could melt the seals. Be careful!! Another age old remedy for frozen nuts, bolts, and fittings-Melt hot candle wax on the threads by letting the candle burn and having the wax drip on the threads. It will seep into them and free them.
