1935 accelerator rod flops around where it goes through floor plate into engine compartment. Works but very loose. Floor plate hole significantly larger than rod of course. Is there supposed to be a seal or grommet in this floor plate hole that rod passes through? Thanks.

The rod should not be contacting the floor board and be loose. They fit tightly into the rubber accelerator pedal. 35 had basically two toe boards, on the LH side, wood and the early metal. I know the wood style had a felt pad stapled over the large hole with a slit in the felt for the rod. I am not sure of the metal toe board.

Make a sheet metal plate with a smaller hole in it for the rod and screw it to the floor board with the too big hole in it. ?? ken ct. The floor mat will cover it all up wont be noticeable OMO.

My basic problem with the pedal flopping around is that the bolt wasn't tight. Duh. It's tight now. The responses were helpful as I learned a lot about foam rubber seals, flannel seals etc. I've ordered what looks like some good, what I consider reasonable cotton flannel from Amazon.com which I'll use over the driver floor plates & the passenger floor board. It's obvious Ford used different or no seals at different times or over the decades whatever was there disappeared. I appreciate the input I got. As usual the forum comes through. Thanks.
