Topic: 1935 & 1936 Ford Noise Levels

Have 1936 Fordor & more recently purchased 1935 Ford 5 window coupe. The 35 coupe seems noticeably noisier than the 36 sedan. Both cars are very nice, frame off restorations.

I believe most of the coupe noise is from the drive train. The 36 just rolls smoothly down the road while the coupe seems to have a little more 'shake, rattle, & roll' (figuratively) to it. I realize this is a very subjective issue.

Would appreciate any differences between 35 coupe & 36 sedan that might account for any of this.

Thanks.

I assume you are talking about body noise: Are the following items in place and in good condition: firewall insulator? jute padding under floor mat? any sound deadener inside door panels and body panels?

The floorboards should have a seal around them that will help reduce engine and exhaust noises. If you are having rattles, you will have to track down the source. There should be no noise difference between the 2 cars.

They all are restoree differently and are like people, no two sound the same. I've been a 34 Ford guy forever and no two of them sounded the same either. The advice above is all good. My most recent one had the entire body insulated on the inside and it's the quietest one yet.
If you want to appreciate your quiet V8, ride in a friends Model A Ford. (Any Model A)

1934 Ford's since 1972
