Topic: 49 Ford trans ext rear oil seal which do I use?

My question: Which seal should I use?
Seal 1 with visible spring
Seal 2 No visible spring
Why the difference in the seal, does it matter? Seal 1 fits tighter.
background:
Ordered two seals one each from two different suppliers
See photo attached. Seal 1 has visible spring, Seal 2 no spring is visible as it is down behind the rubber seal. I checked each seal fit to U-Joint Knuckle p/n 4841, seal 1 fit tighter. Started to install seal then thought best to ask for help with which one I should use, Seal 1 or Seal 2?
Thank you.

#1 is the old way of manufacturing seals, and #2 is the new way with neoprene rubber. Both have the felt ring, which by the way does not stop the occasional drip.
I replaced my original seal about 5 years ago and the replacement I used matched the original seal (which had Ford script and 8A part number) with the visible spring seal.

I am sure others will add to this.

Be sure to check the front end of the driveshaft when you have it out to install the seal. If there is any signs of wear, replace it or the drip will be back.
