Topic: Top Color Choices for 1946 Convertible

jimkelsey    -- 01-02-2017 @ 11:46 PM
My name is Jim Kelsey and I joined the forum in hopes to get some advice on painting a 1/64 1946 Ford convertible slot car made by Auto World. I do not own a real V-8; however, I just finished restoring a stock 1:1 1927 Model T - older, but in the same family. Slot cars is another one of my hobbies and I would like to paint this body as historically accurate as possible and am leaning on the forum members' advice.

I found a color chart online and decided upon the beige (Silver Sand) as it was the only gloss color available that came close in the model paint selection at the store.

I attached a photo of the body that I just airbrushed. I would like to know what color choices were available for the top that were sold with the Silver Sand (beige) color. Any other exterior colors I should be aware of? Thanks.

Whoops! I attached the wrong picture and couldn't figure out how to remove it. Here is the correct one.

According to the Early Ford V-8 Club's 1941-48 Book convertible tops were either "black with red accent binding or drab, self bound."

Your car would look best with the black top.

Thanks gentlemen for taking the time to respond. I will post an after photo when I get done.

  Gentlemen:

I finally finished the 1946 Ford. Below is a picture of the finished project, along with two other slotless race cars that I have been working on since I last posted: a 1956 Chevrolet and a 1953 Chevrolet (still in the process). While the Ford was a straight-across fit, both Chevs were not. Their bodies were designed for a wheel base of 1.7", not the 1.5" chassis that all Aurora slotless cars use. If you want to see the modification process of the 1956 Chev, you can see photos here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/30794229@N02/

Thanks to all again for the advice.

Jim, I have to say I like the Ford over the Chevy's! As I toy collector I do appreciate your hobby.
