Can anyone advise me if a 1950 ford upper grill surround will bolt into a 1949 Meteor. Meteor parts are hard to find. Second and while I gave you here does anyone know why every 1949 ford/meteor has different set of dash knobs. I have chrome some are black plastic or beige ????

No, you can't use a '50 Ford grill surround on a '49 Mercury Meteor because the front lip of the Meteor hood is flat across the front like a '51 Ford. Is your car a 1949 Mercury Meteor? Are you intending to use the correct original '49 grill, grill center, and parking lamp assemblies? Flathead era Meteor parts often turn up in our area (100 miles east of Detroit in Ontario). Whereabouts are you? All the 1949 Mercury Meteor dash knobs I've ever run across are chrome plated metal, identical to the ones used by Ford of Canada on their 1949 Ford passenger cars.
