I am trying to find out if it is possible to remove the oil pan on a 1936 Ford without pulling the motor.It seems that there might not be enough clearance from the cross member. Thanks for any information you can offer.

Yes it is possible, but hardly worth the trouble. The engine must be raised, drag link removed, and the wishbone needs to be loosened at the ball end , then pulled down and blocked. Seems like there were a few more issues besides. After all that you are still on your back looking up at a dark engine trying to do whatever needs to be done. It is easier to just pull the engine, put it on a stand or bench where you can easily get at the internals.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid of that. the reason I wanted to remove the oil pan is because when I was draining the oil, I saw something covering part of the drain hole. I suspect maybe the strainer from the oil pump pickup.

Attached is the recommended procedure for oil pan removal from the 1932-1936 Engine & Chassis Repair Manual. It can be done.

is the strainer loose, can you move it with your finger or a wooden dowel? if not why are you pulling the pan for what is supposed to be where it is?

You can balance this work required to pull the engine with that for pan removal: Remove hood Disconnect battery Drain radiator, remove hoses top and bottom Remove distributor and ignition harness Remove generator/fan assy Remove intake manifold complete Unbolt exhaust pipes and RH splash pan Remove horns Remove radiator Remove Headlights Jack front, turn wheels L and R to remove horn side panels (12 bolts) Remove grille, front baffle (10 bolts) Remove floor boards Support trans with jack, remove bellhousing bolts Remove front engine mount bolts Attach hoist and remove engine I've done it a few times and takes me about 4 hours (old and slow) Houston, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed. if it is the strainer, there was supposed to be a short , small wire clip holding it up, but once the pan has been installed it will not come out the pump housing. it is only good for keeping the rocks out of the oil pump, that is if you put rocks in the engine and keeping heavy sludge at bay so the pump can pump oil
