Want to remove distributor from a 1953 Flathead but after removing the retaining screw the distributor won't budge. What is the easiest way to get the distributor out? Please let me what to do. Thank you.

I had this happen a while back on an 8BA engine. Aa I recall, I sprayed Kroil on it for several days, and then used a strap wrench and worked it back and forth until it loosened. It takes patience, but it can be done.

Problem solved. After applying WD-40 to the joint between the distributor and the engine, I got the smallest pipe wrench I could find, 10" size. Then I cut the wrench down to 6" length so it would fit into the space available around the fully dressed installed engine. Placed the wrench around the distributor shaft under the head and applied several blows with a small hammer to get the distributor to rotate. After that I was able to move the distributor back and forth a few times by hand before pulling it out of the engine.

WD-40 is not a penetrating solvent. Use PB blaster or kroil for these problems. !!!! ken ct.
