When Ford did the body drop at the Rouge, the floorpans were underneath the sub-rails, right? How were the floor pans attached to the sub-rails...bolted or welded? When guys replace floorpans, do they lift the bodies off the frame to remove the old pan or do they cut in the new pan on top of the old floor pan? Curious and never gave this much thought...

All the floors I've worked on were welded together. Can't speak for all years of course but can speak to 1939 - 1940 with certainty. As far as floor replacement, guys do it both the ways you'd suggested. I suppose the method depends on the desired outcome. I tend to remove all of the old welds and all of the old pans prior to installing any new metal. I like to know there is strong - fresh material throughout my repairs / replacements.

I don't know what you mean by subrails, but the floor pan on the years covered by the EFV-8 Club all sat on top of the frame rails. Tom

Tom() For instance, Drake sells separate 32 sub-rails (RH B-20022/LH B-20023) and also the complete floor (B-20019, which includes the floorpan) made by United Pacific. My question is: does the floorpan sit under the sub-rail or on top. Kubes seems to suggest that the floorpan is welded underneath the sub-rail, but you seem to suggest that the floorpan sits on top of the sub-rail...am I interpreting both answers correctly? Once again, I can only answer for 39 - 40. The sub-rails are set atop the pan. They are welded.

Looking at the drawings on Drake's site, the 1932 floor pan appears to be welded on top of the subrails. It looks as if that is the only one that has the sub-rails, but check with the 32 Adviser for the correct answer. Tom

I really do not know if they are different, carpenters looked like the original so I bought them,, they are Paul Bradley floor pans, what nice man he is. If I was buying today I would I would probably go with carpenters one piece , I have a lot of welding a head of me. Carpenter was not making them when I stopped at P. B. Place.
