  1951 USA LHD Ford clutch adjustment diagram or method? My Victoria gears are crunching.

  adjust so the pedal travels about 1 to 1 1/2 inch of free travel before the throwout bearing touches the fingers of the pressure plate, if you have excessive play this could be the reason for the syncros not working properly.

  Other reasons for gear "crunching" are idle speed too high, and light oil in the transmission.

  Thank you. The 'crunch' has been increasing. I think it is just new clutch components 'bedding-in'. I will also consider your comments. Peter.

  Do your gears grind when shifting to first
at idle? If so, I have found that going thru
second first and then shifting to first will
stop this kind of grinding.Always works for me
on all standard shift cars.
