1935 ford mechanical brakes i removed the front shoes and replaced them with new. now i have no pedal at all. the rods move when stepping on the pedal but the shoes do not move. did i disturb something in the cam at the bottom of the shoes? does something fall out of place when removing the shoes? it all seemed too easy,as all i did was remove the two springs and reinstalled them with the new shoes. after reading some info, it looks like the operating wedge has been detatched. is it possible tat the wedge is not connected to the bottom of the shoes properly? This message was edited by t35 on 9-24-16 @ 5:24 PM

The top of the wedge has a small cup that a vertical pin goes in. This is probably out of position. If the pin is not in the cup, the wedge does not move downward expanding the shoes against the brake drum

Did you install the rollers and pins in the lower part of your new shoes? If the rollers and pins are not installed in the new shoes, the wedge has nothing to push against to expand the shoes against the drums. John This message was edited by JM on 9-25-16 @ 10:06 PM

i pulled the drum and operated the brake lever manually. there is over 1/4" of space between the operating pin and the wedge when the rod is back. when pulling the lever it doesn't move enough to open the shoes. i removed the wedge and pin. the pin looks fairly straight but the cup is slightly angled(see attatchment). does this look normal?

Someone has added a cup to the rod (non Ford item). When the rod wears it becomes shorter and in order to increase the rod total length the small cup is added. Suggest you remove the cup and do a brake adjustment to see if you have enough adjustment to bring the rod into proper position.

thanks for the help. i finally realized that rollers were missing and swapped them from old shoes. i had thought that the pins were actually the rollers and jst assumed that they were working ok. after posting on here and ford barn i finally got the message.
