Topic: 1935 Clutch

The clutch out of my 35 car does not have the indented grooves in it like I've seen in so many other clutches. Is the clutch worn so bad that the face of it is worn down below the grooves. Or did they make clutches that did not have the groves. And what are the grooves for anyway. To show how much wear it has seen.

Are you referring to the clutch disk or the pressure plate face?

many of the clutch faces are riveted on. sometimes the wear or contamination from engine or transmission oil can get so bad the rivet heads disappear as well as any grooves on the face of a used clutch. IMO if you have the clutch out and it does not appear to be in NEW condition replace it as well as the pressure plate, throwout bearing and pilot. The added expense is more than offset by the amount of time and energy needed to do the job twice. So save on labor.
