Just trailered home the wife's pride and joy. It's a 1953 Victoria that she helped her dad tow home many years ago. Now it's my job to get it running again. I pulled the fuel tank tonight. The sending unit is nearly rusted off and the fuel tank in no better. I saw on the bottom that it has been soldered in several places. I just spent over an hour looking for a replacement fuel tank to no avail. Is there someone who makes a tank for this car? thank you

Thanks everyone for your help. I happened across a guy today who said he has a half dozen or so 53s and 54s. He's checking to see if he has a usable tank. I'm going to have more requests in the future but have to get this thing running first. While checking the electrical system tonight, I noticed it had a NEW vacuum wiper motor but it has an electric switch. I checked a couple of websites for a 6v motor. Only found 12s. Car electrical system is currently 6v and I'm not anxious to change it at this time. Are 6v motors available?

I would avoid buying a used gas tank. Buy a new one and there are no problems with rust, dirt, etc. A used tank will most likely have the same problems that you already have(used original tanks are 60+ years old). The new tank will save you lots of grief, time, and money in the long run.

If you do buy the used tank, take it to a radiator shop to have it boiled out and coated. I prefer the original tanks, as I do not know of any current reproductions that will accommodate the original sending unit. The aftermarket sending units do not work as well as the original type ones. Tom

TomO, the last tank my neighbor bought for a 53 Ford had two sets of holes. One for the stock unit and one for the newer units. I can't recall where he got it, but it would take either sender. you can also buy and adapter that will adapt the old sender to the newer tank.

I have what appears to be an excellent used 1953 gas tank here in our storage building (100 miles northeast of Detroit.....50 miles due east of Port Huron Michigan.....150 miles west of Buffalo New York). It came out of a running driveable '53 Victoria which was used as a parts car for a '52 convertible project about 20 years ago. If you are close enough, and can come and get it rather than incur shipping costs, I would be pleased to see it go to a good home.
