for a repaint: can the side body mouldings be removed from the outside or do interior panels need to come off? thanks!

You will have to remove the interior trim to release the moulding clips. It is a good idea to order a trim clip kit, such as that offered by Carpenter, as many clips will not be reusable. Even when clips snap into holes in the panel, the ends of the trim strips usually are secured by clips that have a threaded stud.

Most of the trim snaps on the 49. But you might find that someone in the past used the bolt-on trim clips for repair. If that is the case you would bend the trim trying to get it off. Remove the panels just to be safe.

Well....I've removed the driver door panel thinking the rest would be easy, but not so fast! The moulding has 2 screw-on caps which I've removed, but there are maybe 4-5 others that look like simple button tops...are they pressure fits? Only the tops are showing due to the factory sound insulation...I've attached a picture (not great) showing the threading on on the left and the button one on the right. Thanks for your help!

Some of the clips have a small retaining nut to hold them in place. Usually the end ones. On the others the trim simply snaps over the clips. Loosen the trim from these at the bottom first by prying it out away from the body. After the trim is off, the clips can be removed by twisting them 90 degrees (right or left) and they will come out of the mounting holes.
