Unity split amber fog light are installed on my '38 Deluxe Fordor. Was this a dealer installed option or aftermarket? Were they even available in 1938?

Wow! Those are really unique. I have no ideal if they were offered as a Ford authorized accessory. The 1938 Ford Restoration Book offered by this club should have the info in it that you're asking for. I've never seen any like them. Let's hope you'll never have to replace the lenses due to flying rocks etc.

They appear to have socket type bulbs, as opposed to sealed beam. It is my understanding that sealed beams didn't become available until 1940. If that is the case, I would say they are "period correct" for 1938. Here are some socket bulbed unity lights on my '38. I put them on after I got the car. I have dual filament bulbs in them and use them as parking/signal lights.

Ray, Unity road lamps were a dealer installed accessory. Yours appears to be of a different vintage than was available in Ford salesrooms beginning in 1937. The large bump on top was not of '37 -'39 Ford vintage, nor was the unique lens you have. 1937 had the Unity name on top, but no bump. Beginning January 1938, the Ford Script appeared at that spot. The lens was dark yellow for 1937, and light yellow beginning 1938. Bulbs for all were 32 CP, #1133. The lens you have being so unique, you should guard them with your life!

Alan

PS~ The lamps that 40cp shows on his '38 appear to be correct, and may have either Unity or a Ford script with an oval stamped on top.

I located a 2011 Unity fog light post. In this post my amber clear amber lens were describe as for "export" in 1938. Interesting. So wherever I have I am going to get them working. If nothing else they will improve 6V night time driving.
