Topic: Replacing Roof Panel Seal

My '36 Tudor needs the seal around the vinyl roof insert replaced. After removal the small thin lip which carries the inside of the rubber seal is rusted and in some places missing. I thought I saw an ad for an original looking fiberglass panel that you would replace the vinyl and wood original panel. The very experienced upholstery fellow working on this project thinks he can form the lip from urethane at least well enough to make the roof water tight. Anyone have any experience with a problem such as this?

I've used Juliano's top kit in the past and they work well and are water tight. Not stock as they have a slightly raised lip around the outer edge. In your situation I would question rebuilding the lip with urethane. Maybe he is talking about filling the groove with urethane? In that case it may work. If it doesn't you are back to square one. I can't comment on the fiberglass panel as I have not seen one. If you are looking at something such as the panel, you would be far better off with the Juliano's kit. www.julianos.com

Thanks, I have made note of Juliano's just in case. I do hope the shop where it is is able to use the kit I supplied, but if not, it is good to know there is a plan "B"
