Topic: Pulling rear end

When pulling rear end from 47 mercury do you leave tires on or off. Seems like you would have to lift car very high to pull rear end out with tires on car.

  You answered your own question.
If the tires stay on, raise the car higher.
usually, raise the car put jack stands under the frame & use your floor jack under the differential to lower the rear & pull from under the car. This can happen after wheels, U bolts, brake line & shocks are unfastened. Spring can stay on the rear.

Follow 42merc's advice and you can't go wrong. I have two small "furniture dollies" that I place under the brake drums when I lower the rear. Makes it easy to roll around.

You could remove your existing wheels and tires, and just use an old set of wheels w/o tires. This protects the drums, and allows the rear to roll out w/o the car needing to be jacked up so high on stands. This worked well for me this May when removing and reinstalling the rear in my 35 fordor.
