I'm purchasing a 39 in Idaho and need to have it transported to Virginia.
With whom have you had good luck with?

Check out the "Services" portion of Hemmings Motor News. There are a ton of transport companies that advertise in it.

Personally, I have had good experience with both InterCity Lines and Horseless Carriage. There are lots of others - Passport, Reliable, etc. NONE ARE CHEAP, so be prepared for a major case of sticker shock when they give you a quote.

Of the 2 that I have worked with, I'd give a slight edge to InterCity.

If you want to check with your local Regional Group, they can probably give you some tips about transporter companies - both good and bad, and maybe even have some local companies that they can refer you to, that can handle a cross country car transport for you.

Best of luck.

Tom

I've used Van Dam Trucking out of North Dakota on two occasions. John Van Dam is an independent trucker with big rig and enclosed trailer and does a great job. He can be reached at 1-701-219-0632 or e-mail at; vandamtrkg@cs.com. As others have said be prepared for some sticker shock as prices have gone up. I suspect Idaho to Virginia is probably $2000-$2500.
Open carriers are usually cheaper, but there are some definite risks with an open carrier. Rain, hail storms, vandalism, theft, etc.

I had excellent service from Passport. Cost was $1200 from Cape Cod to Atlanta, and took 5 days. They are a classy operation and I particularly liked the insurance coverage they carry. Also GPS tracking of the shipment and coordination for pickup and delivery was good.

I used Intercity Transport 2 years ago. They were terrific and very competitive.

I just booked with Intercity. After extensive research it seems to be the best option for me. Time will tell.

I ship a lot of cars.
The only company I have never had an issue with is Passport. They have always been professional and the car(s) have been picked up / delivered when promised.
Blue Highways was a total horror story. I would stay as far away from them as possible.
