Topic: 52 F Series V8's

Are there different sized V8s for the 48 - 52 F Series trucks, in HP, physical size/wgt, etc? If so what are they? If not, are the truck engines different than car engines in HP, physical size/wgt, or things like cranks, mains, rods, valves etc? Thanks, JerryG

I found some info on F-Series truck flatheads on Wikipedia. It looks pretty good, but it does not link the different truck flathead models to the different truck models except for the really special ones.

Does anyone know of a Ford reference source on-line for this info? I am looking at 8BA-era truck engines...for possible use in my '34 sedan, but want to know what I am looking at when I see one. Thanks. Jerry G

Thank you Bill. This clears things up a lot. The truck engine I was looking at has been sold, but now I know more about what I am looking at when an ad comes along.

The 48 and down engines are a way better fit then the 49 53 FORD and MERC ENGINE,using one of these you will have to find a 49 53 FORD truck bell housing,so you can use the original transmission
a 37 early 38 21 stud engine I think is the best, you can use block plates on the bottom and use 34 heads with water pumps and it will look about the same,
but if you want more power you could use a 59AB with a 4 inch MERC CRANKS, 255 CUBIC INCHES,
about 125 HP,
There are a lot of options, depending how much you want to spend,
I had a 37 PLATFORM ULITLY PICK UP, with a 53 MERCUY CRANK, had to make a custom crossover pipe for the exhaust not to big of a problem,
I have a few engines, will need rebuilding,
1 49-53 MERC, and 2 59 AB that were bought for a 39 MERCURY,
my 3 cents worth,37RAGTOPMAN
