is the engine that was installed at the factory in the 1946 Ford pickup truck a 59AB? I know a 6cyl was also an option. Tblossom

Both V8 and 6 cyl. engines were available from the factory. I'm pretty sure the 59AB is the correct V8 engine.

The 59 series V8 was introduced in 1945, so yes, that series would be correct for a 1946 pickup. That number, along with one of several possible suffix letters would appear on the upper bell of the block. The suffix letters A or AB would appear on the heads. I cannot narrow it down as to which would be on any particular '46 or '47 pickup, or '46, '47, or '48 car. Alan
