seems to be some conflict with information on this motor specifically for trucks in this year , does the 122" standard pick up get these engines . I have found some info for the 81T used in larger Trucks of the same year ?

Info for these 122 inch toners is hard to find. All I have found indicates that they were available with 60hp and 85hp. I did find one place that indicated that the 39 may have been available with the Merc 95hp.
My 39 has an 85 with 81T6049 on the heads.

This is not the final answer, but is the results of my research.

The 81T heads would be correct for the 39 trucks with the 85 HP engine. This head is a lower compression head than used on the cars, 5.9 vs 6.2.

None of the chassis parts catalogs or Service Bulletins show a 95 HP for 1938. The 81T heads could have come out for the 38, but all of the catalogs show the 81T and 99T heads for the 39 and 40 models. The 81T heads are used on the 39 and 40 Mercury and the 85 HP trucks in 39 and 40. The 99T heads are used on the 95 HP trucks. The 38 trucks used the 81A heads.

VanPelt indicates that the 95hp was available in the 122 inch three quarter ton in 39. There were no three quarter ton 122 inch trucks in 38.
