hi guys,i have a 1950 f5 truck that i am working on with a EAB v8 that has the tea pot carb and oil bath air filter.i am restoring the air filter and would like to know the original color to paint it.anybody know.thanks,john

Gosh, I've not seen an air filter that wasn't black. I looked in Wagners book on Ford trucks and was surprised to find very few engine photos and none in the era you have. Imagine not looking at an engine in a truck first? But someone will know, I'm sure.

I can only find 2 V-8 engine listed for the 1950 trucks, the 239 cu.in. and the 337 cu.in. Neither of them have the "teapot" carburetor. The 239 has the same carburetor as the Ford car and the 337 cu. in. engine has the side draft Holley carburetor. The 337 was only available in the F7 and F8 trucks. The EAB heads were used on the 52 Mercury engine. The Mercury engine could be painted either green or tangerine red. The air cleaner matched the color of the block on the green engines and was painted black on the tangerine engines. These engine used the "teapot" type carburetor. All Ford truck 239 engines were painted red in 1950, and I believe that the air cleaner was painted black. I hope that this helps you. Tom

tom&oink thank you for the info.tom this engine may have been changed at some time,so maybe a merc.the carb has the side draft towards the rear of engine.is the tea pot and side draft the same carb?in 1950 all truck engines were painted red so this EAB will be painted red.thank you again,john

Some people call all Holley concentric carburetors "teapot". others say that it only applies to the 1900, 2140 and 4000 series as in these series the float bowl is raised above the throttle body and the 885FF series has the float bowl closer to the throttle body. The 885F series seems less likely to start on fire than the 2140 series. Tom
