I am about to re-wire my 51 ford pickup. All the wires behind the dash appear to be cracked, etc. I have ordered the new harnesses from MACs. What I need is some encouragement that this is a doable project by me (amateur , but good mechanic). How long does this take? What problems am I about to face. Anything will help. hank you. Peter

A diagram should come with the harness. The wires are color coded and if you follow the diagram you should be fine. I suspect the kit will consist of more that one harness(dash, engine, lights, etc) Do one harness at a time beginning with the harness under the dash. If your harness does not come with a diagram, make them supply one. If they can't give you one send it back. All good harnesses come with diagrams.

Thank you. That is reassuring. MAC does furnish a diagram. Peter

If this like the older fords, the ammeter works by induction,no direct connection. If it reads backwards, reverse the direction of the wire in the clip behind the ammeter.

I completely rewired my '40 Ford with wiring harnesses from MAC's a few years ago. As I recall it was a straight forward process and didn't require too much time. Take your time and do one harness at a time.
