Topic: Transmission adapter

I have a 1950 F2 with 4 speed trans I'm trying to mate up to a 292 Y Block. Having trouble finding the right adapter plate, although I know they exist. If someone can clue me in to the model number of this trans and/or who has the adapters that would be great.

Yes, they were available back in the day. I did 1 or 2 of these conversions back in the 60s. as I recall, the oil filter interferred with the steering box on some models, but there was an adapter available form Ford that turned the filter 90 degrees and pointed it forward. You might put an ad on the forum and/or watch the swap meets.

Any adapter that is designed to bolt up a Y Block to any 32-48 full-sized V8 will work with this transmission, as they all had the same SAE bolt circle. I can't help you with sources, but perhaps this will narrow your search. The pictured 4-speed has the same bolt pattern as all 3-speed transmissions, so you really don't need to worry about a "model number".

OK, so is it me or does it look like this adapter plate has the starter in a slightly different location than the transmission bolt pattern?

The Ebay seller mentions that this plate may be for '48 and earlier.

From your pictures, I would say this is the correct adapter. Be sure to chaeck the pilot bearing in the 292 for correct size and replace it if it shows any wear. It looks to me that the starter is in the same place as origional.
