You should be able to use the open drive 3 speed from a 42-47 ford pickup. For rear springs get a kit from Chassis Engineering; www.chassisengineeringinc.com. You can then use the rear end from a 67-70 Mustang or 68-75 Nova. The three speed from a 48-52 F-1 may also work, but I can't say for sure that some changes may have to made to the input shaft. ,

As Tom suggests, if you opt for a modern rear end, be sure to know the gear ratio in the unit. Four speed transmissions are seldom equipped with overdrive, just a "granny" super low gear.. High gear is almost always is straight through. Check tire size and determine engine speed at highway use. Optimum is about 2,500 engine revs at 55-60 mph. Pickups with a four speed transmission are meant for power, not speed, so how fast you run before the swap will remain the same if the replacement axle has the same ratio as the original.

Thanks for the input. I have installed the Chassis engr parallel springs, and with it a 76 Granada 279:1 rear.I have included a pic of a trans which was given to me when I bought my Truck. origin unknown. does it look
like the trans you mentioned? regards, Tom

That appears to be the 42-47 pickup transmission. Now you will need to find the yoke that fits into the back of it.
